Permalink i hunted Brooklyn grocery stores for these limited edition Birthday Cake Oreos for ages; the Nabisco product locator lied, Target in Brooklyn didn’t carry them.
so i paid $5.89 for them at Gristedes. SIX DOLLARS FOR OREOS, SERIOUSLY NEW YORK?
whatever, they’re delicious and i love them. buttercream-esque frosting instead of the usual sugary icing taste. cute too!
ps did you know Oreos were invented in Chelsea? :)
Permalink this is my go-to meal when i have time to cook, but don’t feel like thinking about what to make/haven’t researched new recipes in advance. we’ve got panko-crusted salmon, mashed sweet potatoes and mixed greens with dijon-balsamic dressing. easy peasy, fairly healthy & super satisfying.
Permalink major accomplishments this morning:1) flipped egg in the frying pan with a flick of the wrist (i don’t know why i’ve never attempted this before, just got used to using a spatula i guess.) 2) somehow got my egg the exact size of the english muffin!
gettin’ crazy in the kitchen over here.
not pictured: other english muffin slathered with nutella and peanut butter, topped with sliced banana. ate that immediately.
i love breakfast.

Permalink terrible eating habits as of late. this scavenged meal at work the other day amused me though. chicken and cake, why not? my coworker: “it’s kind of like chicken and waffles.”
i will try and get my act together soon.
Permalink fall is officially here! yesterday i had an amazing grilled cheese from the morris truck: raclette cheese, pulled pork & pickled watermelon radish on sourdough. inspired, i made another grilled cheese of my own today, a cheddar gruyere blend on quinoa bread. this is going to be a problem.
autumn is fully reflected in this week’s farmers market bounty. pictured is kale + brussels sprouts with a maple, lemon & whole grain mustard dressing. (thanks to this great book for the idea) purple kale is so pretty. i’ve got some fun plans for the squash, sweet potatoes and apples i bought as well. and of course, i’ve already whipped up a batch of pumpkin whoopie pies :)
it sounds like i’m eating well, so let me just bring it back to reality and confess that last night i was busy working, so dinner was cereal straight from the box, a half dozen cookies and some ice cream. i am a grown up.
Permalink so i moved to new york. land of a bajillion amazing food options. already dined at some awesome restaurants including morimoto, red cat and five leaves. great food truck/cart options at every corner. reps bringing in delicious food at work. fatkidforever.
but there’s nothing as satisfying as going for a morning run, picking up fresh produce at the farmers market and throwing together a simple, tasty breakfast for yourself. local kale, heirloom tomatoes, farm eggs & french baguette. yay!

Permalink Beet carpaccio salad at Hearty for Z’s bachelorette dinner. Nothing extraordinary, but lovely colours and plating.
The maple syrup & black pepper butter they served with their bread, however, now that was a winner. But really, you can’t go wrong with fancy butter.
Permalink I love picnics, but because they’re so weather-dependent, I haven’t had them as often as I’d like (especially with weather.com’s constant lies). Bri, Kristin & I had been plotting this for a few days - even though it was a beastly 90 degrees out today, we followed through!
So many favorite things pictured here:-nautical napkins/blanket-vino verde-blueberry crumb bars (i healthed up the recipe a little)-hummus & veggies-brownies-french baguetteUnpictured:-giant wedge of brie (of which i consumed too much)-adorable creepin’ squirrels
Permalink Rainy day brunch with C at Cafe Maude. We split the huevos rancheros and spinach/egg/feta/basmati dish, both quite satisfying. Love when friends have similar food tastes and want to splitsy. (Ames!!)
As Steph and I once concluded during a random conversation: brunch is the foundation of love. You don’t network or meet strangers over brunch, and I would certainly never make brunch for a casual acquaintance.
Brunch is to be enjoyed with your nearest and dearest on lazy weekend afternoons - discussing both frivolous and profound topics, rehashing weekend shenanigans & just generally basking in your friendship/love/warmth. Brunch is intimate and comfortable. Brunch is for besties.
Permalink Recently caught up with an old friend and fellow food-lover over lunch on Birchwood Cafe’s patio one sunny afternoon.
After drooling over everything in their dessert display case (i want to live in that thing), there was no way we could pass up warm mixed berry pie with a side of vanilla bean ice cream. Yum, thanks for sharing MoStan!
Permalink Some of the tasty, organic, local meals I consumed at the HNLFI during my volunteer stint. They served a mostly vegetarian buffet with fish/shrimp twice a week. I overate at every meal.
Permalink Oh hi, I’m in Iceland, eating delicious things every day. Here’s some fresh salmon, lobster soup & bread from the Sea Baron in Reykjavik. The restaurant is owned by the former cook for the Icelandic Coast Guard.
